What is AWS EC2 ?

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, EC2 is a web service from Amazon that provides resizable compute services in the cloud.

What do you mean by resizable in AWS EC2 ?

You can quickly scale up or scale down the number of server instance you are using based upon on your traffic. 

What is called as Instance?

An instance is a virtual server for running applications on Amazon’s EC2. Simply Virtual Machine is called as Instance(i.e)it holds the HDD, OS, RAM, Network Connection Whatever things that are need to run a system. 

Note : Everything is Virtual You can’t able to see the HDD, RAM , or CPU. Only thing is you can able to configure it based on your need.  

So here is the Definition…. 

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) is a web service that provides secure, resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale cloud computing easier for developers.

Why Amazon EC2 ?

•  Pay-as-you go service, no capital expenditure. Server as low as $0.02 per hour
•  Easy to obtain and setup server  instances within minutes
•  Scaling up or down can be done quickly

Here are some definition i got for u to understand it better…

• Inshort Ec2 is virtual server I.e computer/compute resource maintained by someone else (AWS) where you can remotely access (SSH) using some credentials (Access key ,keypairs) and it will work as normal computer ( you can scale compute power in a click using change instance type settings).
• You can imagine EC2 as a computer which is maintained by someone else.
• It is a web service that provides users with the resources to run applications by renting virtual computers. It provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud.

Why Ec2 Comes into Play?

It's difficult to predict how much computing power one might require for an application when you are a startup or new to this business. There might be two scenarios, one is you might overestimate the requirements and buy more stacks of servers which will not be used, or the second one is underestimate the requirements which lead to crashing of your application..
