Python #22-Regex match() and search() methods in Python
For eg: If you need to find a certain word from a word document or log file this method might be handy for the programmers.
Note Worthy: In Python, Regular Expression is denoted by Re and its is imported from the module re module.
Methods that can used in Regular Expressions:
Simple Example of Regex in Python
Syntax of split function:
Eg: re.split('\s', 'Hello world')
items to find and split - if u want to split the word hello world into hello and world then you must split by means of the space provided between them so that space notation should be mentioned there.
String in which operation to be performed - Hello world
Source Code:
import re
variable = re.split('\s', 'Hello Google Bird Users')
print variable
Output:
['Hello', 'Google', 'Bird', 'Users']
Explanation:
Line 1 : import re
This line is used to import the regular expression module which is given inn python libraries through which we can able to perform regex operations.
Line 2 : variable = re.split('\s', 'Hello Google Bird Users')
\s - denotes the space. Wherever the space is present the the word will be split at that point.
Here in our string we have space in between 'Hello Google Bird Users'
So the space position will split and from a single string many new string will obtained and stored as lists in a given variable.
Line 3 : print variable
This line will display the values present in the variable after spliting.

What is Regex?
Regex - Regular Expression
Regular Expression are a special purpose text string operation used in programming language for search pattern.
Primarily used for String searching and manipulation.
For eg: If you need to find a certain word from a word document or log file this method might be handy for the programmers.
Note Worthy: In Python, Regular Expression is denoted by Re and its is imported from the module re module.
Methods that can used in Regular Expressions:
- re.split()
- re.match()
- re.search()
- re.findall()
